Abelia × grandiflora 'Mardi Gras' is a branch sport of Abelia grandiflora x chinensis. It was selected by Rick Crowder of Hawksridge Nursery in North Carolina. 'Mardi Gras' was patented on October 5, 2004 under the patent number PP15,203.

It is a compact and low-growing shrub that grows to about two to three feet tall and about four to five feet wide. It is hardy in USDA Zones 6 - 9. It should be planted in full sun.

'Mardi Gras' is known for the following traits. The foliage is green with white variegation, with new foliage emerging pink. The flowers are a pink-white color. The overall habit of the plant is compact and low-growing. Additionally, it has red-bronze stems.

It may be confused for Abelia grandiflora 'Radiance' but can be distinguished in that 'Radiance' does not have any pink coloration to its foliage or flowers, as 'Mardi Gras' does.
